David Snell has stepped down as president and CEO of Electronics Manufacturing Group Inc.
Snell this week takes on a new role as adviser to the board of directors and management. He gives up control of day-to-day operations to provide direction in areas surrounding financing and mergers and acquisitions. Snell remains a director and vice-chairman of the Calgary-based company.
Meanwhile, Michael Harrison has been appointed chief operations officer and interim chief executive officer. Harrison joins EMG from Home Media Corp., where he served as president and CEO.
Tracy Holotuk, formerly senior VP, corporate development of EMG, has left the company.
EMG (EMG–TSE) provides product development and delivery services to the global technology and electronics industry.
Mel Belich has been elected the 33rd president of the national board of directors of Ducks Unlimited Canada.
A Calgarian, and volunteer with DU since 1976, Belich has been a member of the board since 1994 and has been actively involved in chairing DU’s development fund-raising committee. Belich is also a director of Compton Petroleum Corp. and is chairman and director of Enbridge International Inc. and Enbridge Technology Inc.
Ducks Unlimited, formed 63 years ago, is Canada’s largest private, non-profit habitat conservation organization.
Darryl Anderson is the new president and COO of Destiny Resource Services Corp. Anderson also joins the Calgary company’s board of directors, said Bruce Libin, who became executive chairman and CEO.
Anderson was a co-owner of Reef Mud Ltd., from 1995–’97 before selling the company. Since that sale, he’s been involved in private businesses and consulting.
Destiny (DSC–TSE) provides survey, line clearing and shothole drilling services to the geophysical industry.
Sid Dykstra has taken the helm of OPTI Canada Inc. as its new CEO. Dykstra was most recently president of Hunt Oil Company of Canada and prior to that, a founder, president, and COO of Newport Petroleum Corp.
Calgary-based OPTI was established in 1999. The company’s first project is a proposed commercial heavy oil production and upgrading facility near Fort McMurray.
James DuBarry is the new president of Tetratel Inc. DuBarry, previously of WiBand Communications, will relocate to Edmonton from Toronto. He is a director and CFO of Tetratel Inc., a technology company involved in stereoscopic and three-dimensional laser technology.
Bill Overend has joined Deep Blue Associates Inc. Overend most recently was a consulting manager with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young’s national strategy and transformation practice. Deep Blue Associates specializes in business planning, technology commercialization, strategy development and market research. It has offices in Calgary and Edmonton.
Patrick Gedge has been appointed senior VP with the Canadian Tourism Commission beginning July 1.
Gedge gives up his job as managing director of Travel Alberta, senior VP, marketing and sales.
An executive search has begun to find a replacement by this summer.
Gedge was appointed managing director of Travel Alberta when the organization was first established in 1999.
Gerry Klopp has resigned as a director of Alternative Fuel Systems Inc. Klopp founded the company in 1981 and was the CEO of AFS from inception until 1999.
According to a news release, Klopp will devote much of his time to new environmental projects, including a water-purification program in Mexico.
