Katherine Tong is retiring October 1 from VantagePoint Systems of Vancouver. The vice-president of professional services is leaving to pursue personal interests. Her responsibilities are being assumed by Dunn Gee, director of client services for VantagePoint.

The company (VPG-TSXV) is a developer of business management software for the corrugated packaging and folding carton industry.

Placer Dome Inc. has named Peter Tomsett as its new president and chief executive, effective September 15, replacing the retiring Jay Taylor.

Tomsett has been with Placer Dome (PDG-TSX) for 18 years, most recently as executive vice-president of Placer Dome Asia Pacific and Africa.

Taylor, who announced his retirement in March, will continue in an advisory role through March 2005.

Tomsett will move with his family from Brisbane, Australia, to Vancouver.

Placer Dome is one of the world’s largest gold-mining companies and second-biggest in Canada behind Barrick Gold, with interests in 17 mines on five continents. The Vancouver-based firm employs nearly 13,000 people on four continents.

Farallon Resources Ltd. (FAN-TSX) of Vancouver has named mining consultant Jorge Villasenor to the post of general manager, Farallon, based in Mexico City.

Villasenor has more than 30 years of experience in the mining industry in Mexico in both the corporate and operational spheres.

Farallon is involved in the acquisition, exploration and development of precious-metal properties.

Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers (RBA-TSX, NYSE) has announced senior management succession plans.

David E. Ritchie, one of the company’s founders and currently chairman and chief executive officer plans to resign as CEO on October 31 but remain chairman of the board. Peter J. Blake, currently senior VP and chief financial officer of Ritchie Bros., will become CEO of the company on November 1.

The company’s board of directors also appointed Robert S. Armstrong, currently VP finance, to the position of VP finance and CFO effective November 1, 2004. Armstrong will also remain the company’s corporate secretary.

Vancouver-based Ritchie Bros. is the world’s largest auctioneer of industrial equipment.

AMEC has named local Vancouver engineer Steve Hunt to the newly created position of vice-president of business development and strategy. From Vancouver, Hunt will be responsible for building AMEC’s infrastructure business across North America and selected international markets.

Hunt has more than 22 years of experience and has practised internationally since the late 1980s.

AMEC, B.C.’s largest engineering firm, is an international project management and services company headquartered in London.

Andrew Morden, vice-president of administration and chief financial officer, is resigning from Digital Dispatch Systems Inc. (DD-TSX) to pursue other opportunities effective September 1.

Digital Dispatch will be actively recruiting for a new CFO and expects to hire a replacement for Morden within the next few months.

Vancouver-based Digital Dispatch is a global provider of turnkey wireless mobile data dispatching systems.

Paul Shumate has been appointed vice-president of sales and marketing – Americas for PresiNET Systems Corp.’s new United States corporate headquarters in Orange County, Calif.

Shumate is responsible for developing and deploying PresiNET’s channel partners program as well as business development for the U.S. marketplace. Victoria-based PresiNET offers security and Internet performance management software.

Conrad Boychuk has joined Cannon Design as associate vice-president.

Formerly president of PBK Architects in Vancouver, Boychuk has more than 29 years of experience specializing in recreation, leisure, spectator sport and entertainment facility design.

New York State-based Cannon Design provides architectural and engineering services through 10 regional centres, including offices in Vancouver and Victoria.
