05/09/02 Suncor welcomes new CFO to management team Business Edge Moving On: corporate appointments and changes

Suncor Energy Inc. has named Steve Williams as its chief financial officer.

Williams, who will also serve as executive vice-president of corporate development, replaces Mike O’Brien, who is retiring at the end of June. Until recently, Williams was responsible for global operations with Octel Corp. in England and prior to that oversaw Esso refinery operations in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Dennis R. Salahub is the new vice-president of research at the University of Calgary.

Salahub hails from the Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences at the National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa, where he has been director general since 1999. Prior to that, he was a chemistry professor at the Université de Montreal. Salahub has been the recipient of a Killam Research Fellowship and was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1998.

Progress Energy Ltd. has made additions to its management team.

Neil Samis is the new vice-president, production. Samis was previously a member of the Fletcher Challenge Oil and Gas Inc. executive team. Daniel Topolinsky is the new vice-president, exploration. Previously the VP exploration with Renaissance Energy Ltd., Topolinsky has 22 years of industry experience.

The president and CEO of the Edmonton Regional Airports Authority has been appointed to the Airports Council International – North America board of directors.

Scott Clements will represent the interests of the Canadian aviation industry on the ACI-NA board.br> Prior to joining Edmonton Airports in 1995, Clements served in the Canadian Air Force.
