Bill Hogg has accepted the permanent role of VP of finance and chief financial officer for SYNSORB Biotech Inc.
He had held the jobs in an acting capacity since October 2000 and will deal with all areas concerning finance and administration for the company.
SYNSORB (SYB–TSE, SYBB–NASDAQ) is a pharmaceutical company. Its lead product, SYNSORB Cd(R), has been granted fast-track designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Agency (FDA) and is undergoing Phase III clinical trials at centres across North and South America. The product is a potential treatment for recurrent C. difficile-associated diarrhea, a condition caused by antibiotic use.
Robert Beamish will head up the incubation program for Calgary Technologies Inc. The program is designed to help startup and emerging technology companies secure early-stage financing.
Beamish has been providing product development and technology management expertise to startup ventures since joining the company last year.
Formerly CTI’s business growth adviser, he will be responsible for co-ordinating the program’s workshop, coaching services, expert review panels and the final investor forum for program graduates.
CTI is a not-for-profit company that fosters economic development in Calgary’s technology sector.
Nancy Toombs is the new director of corporate communications for Calgary Inc. Toombs leaves Wi-LAN Inc., where she was the company’s media relations specialist. She is a former news anchor/reporter with Global TV in Regina.
Calgary Inc. is responsible for long-range strategic planning of economic prosperity and for the promotion of Calgary at home and abroad.
Darren Gee has been named VP of exploitation with Peyto Exploration and Development Corp. Peyto (PEY–CDNX) is a Calgary-based junior oil and gas company.
Cassy Weber is the new director, marketing and business development, for Quick Link Communications.
Weber’s background includes working at Cell-Loc Inc. as director, corporate communications and investor relations, editor in chief for NEAR magazine, and other managerial roles in marketing, public, and investor relations.
Quick Link Communications Ltd. is a privately held Canadian telecommunications company with offices in Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver.
Wolfgang Wenk has been appointed senior partner and president of PowerPlus Systems Corp.
Wenk, who joined the company in the fall of 1999, was formerly its senior VP. He emigrated from Germany in 1983 and held a number of positions with Mohawk Oil, working his way up from sales clerk to western region general manager.
John Brussa has joined the board of directors of Calgary-based Internet services provider Applied Terravision Systems Inc. Brussa is a partner with the firm of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer, and is also a director of several companies in the oil and gas industry, including Magin Energy and Baytex Energy.
Tony Pantalone has tendered his resignation as executive VP with Flowing Energy Corp.
The resignation is effective at the end of this week. He will continue to serve as a director of Flowing Energy (FLO–CDNX) until June 30 of this year, or the next annual meeting.
