TD Industries, the Western Canadian leader in carwash supplies and support, has four exciting new developments to report – including one that will make carwash owners howl.
It’s safe to say that TD Industries is cleaning up in the carwash business, and hundreds of carwash owners across the Prairies are benefiting from their success.
Run by the husband-and-wife team of Terry and Nancy Schmautz, TD Industries is a great Western Canadian success story. Beginning as a one-person operation in a garage in Okotoks 23 years ago, TD Industries now has 22 employees and offices or representatives across Western Canada.
The company’s tremendous success has spurred a move into a spacious new location, at 4404 116 Ave. S.E., Calgary, going from a 3,000-sq.-ft. shop and head office to 6,500 sq. ft.

“We’re really proud of our move,” says Nancy. “It gives us more room to grow, manufacture and create.”
At the company’s shop, they produce self-serve wand wash equipment, foam brush handles, in-bay self-serve carpet shampooers, and undercarriage washers. They also serve as distributors for Turtle Wax industrial chemicals, MacNeil touch wash systems, Mark VII touchless wash equipment, and Cat Pump, the standard in the self-serve carwash business.
And to accommodate the company’s surging business, they have increased their tactical staff in the Edmonton, Vancouver and Calgary offices.
The addition of three new product lines has solidified TD Industries’ position as the unquestioned leader in the vehicle-washing industry in Western Canada.
TD Industries now has for sale a line of portable, professional pressure-washing units for light and heavy industrial use.
“They could be used to wash fleets of vehicles in a yard, to clean tractor trailer units, cranes, rental equipment . . . anything that has a need to wash on site,” says Nancy. There are many different models and sizes, and they are adaptable for hot water.
Another exciting new addition to the TD Industries family is a line of detailing products for those who want to give their vehicles that extra shine – and improve its value.
“The line will include detailing products, either hand applied or power polisher, for businesses or resale,” says Nancy. “This includes protectants and waxes, upholstery fabric protector, carpet cleaners, and the scents.”
For the outside of the vehicle, detailing removes small scratches and discoloration, and gives chrome a showroom shine.
Detailing is a great way to improve the value of your car, says Nancy. “Not only is it esthetic, but it promotes value because it keeps the vehicle looking like new.”
And finally, a unique new product from TD Industries is adding more bite to the carwash business. A dog wash is an economical, space-efficient way to increase your profits, says Nancy. The dog wash, manufactured by TD Industries, has been a huge hit at trade shows and is catching on across the West.
The dog wash is small, requiring a space of only 10 ft. x 10 ft., and pays for itself in a relatively short period of time. It operates exactly the same as a carwash, only modified for Fido. Operated by loonies, it comes complete with a low-pressure spray nozzle and a choice of features (shampoo, conditioner, flea and tick, and dry). The water is tempered for the dog’s comfort, and the stainless steel tub is lined with a rubber mat to prevent slipping.
“It allows a customer to keep the mess inside a carwash, rather than inside their home,” says Nancy. And anyone who has ever washed a dog in their bathtub can attest to the value of taking this messy job outside the home.
The addition of the pressure washes and detailing products makes TD Industries a full-service carwash service company.
TD Industries has successfully filled three market sectors: the sale of car washes to major oil companies (most Petro Canada car washes in Western Canada are from TD Industries); parts and service for all different types of carwashes; and the chemical end as the industrial Turtle Wax distributor for Western Canada. But TD Industries is a lot more than just a supplier to carwashes – it is a partner in the success of your business.
“We have something for everybody in the carwash industry,” says Nancy, which includes starting the business from the ground up with site selection and the creation of a business plan to helping you choose a contractor.
The company backs up everything they do with a highly trained, knowledgeable staff, many of whom have been sent for training in Ontario, Colorado and California. They now have 10 mobile repair units across the West, in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton, Calgary, Kamloops and Vancouver.
Whether you’re a longtime carwash owner who knows the ropes – and recognizes the incredible value of a carwash – or a would-be entrepreneur looking for an opportunity to make your money work for you, TD Industries can help.
