Barry Heck is stepping aside as CEO and a director of Westaim Corp. (TSX:WED) to become executive chairman of the company’s Nucryst Pharmaceuticals Corp. subsidiary (TSX:NCS).
The move comes as Westaim is cutting the workforce at its iFire Technology flat-screen development unit.
Drew Fitch, Westaim’s senior vice-president and chief financial officer, moves up to president and CEO.
Nucryst, a developer of drugs to fight infection and inflammation, is 75-per-cent owned by Westaim, which earlier announced it is conducting a strategic review.

WIN Energy Corp. (TSXV:WNR) says Matthew Philipchuk has tendered his resignation as WIN’s vice-president of corporate development to pursue
other business and personal opportunities.
Calgary-based WIN Energy is developing exploration opportunities in the Alberta foothills.

Northern Abitibi Mining Corp. (TSXV:NAI) has appointed Stephen Rowins as the company’s new VP of exploration.
Rowins most recently held the position of senior research scientist with the mining and minerals division of the Saskatchewan Research Council.
Northern Abitibi is a Calgary junior exploration company focused on
exploration opportunities within North America.

John Hogg has assumed the position of VP of exploration with MGM Energy Corp. (TSX:MGX).
Hogg was previously manager of new ventures and frontier exploration with the Canadian subsidiary of an international energy company. MGM Energy is a Calgary-based oil and natural gas company focused on Northern Canada.

Mexican Silver Mines Ltd. (TSXV:MSM) has appointed Robert Ashauer its CFO. He replaces Harry McGucken, who will continue to serve as a member of the board.
Ashauer most recently served as the CFO of Cordy Oilfield Services Inc.
In addition, Daniel Kenney has been appointed as MSM’s corporate secretary.
Ashauer has also become the CFO of Prize Mining Corp. (TSXV:PRZ), replacing Feisal Somji, who will continue to serve as the chairman of Prize’s board.
Mexican Silver Mines is a junior resource company developing three former silver-producing properties in Mexico. Prize explores for precious and base metals in the Atlin area of British Columbia and in Nunavut. The two companies share corporate offices in Calgary.

Sierra Vista is a Calgary junior oil and gas company active in the Peace River Arch region of central Alberta.

Ken MacDonald, president, CEO and a director of Pulse Data Inc. (TSX:PSD), has retired. MacDonald leaves after a 35-year career in the geophysical industry, including 20 years with Pulse, Western Canada’s second-largest provider of seismic data.
Stepping into his shoes is Doug Cutts, who has been the Calgary company’s VP of finance and CFO for the past five years.

Highpine Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:HPX) has announced the resignations of president and chief operating officer Greg Baum and senior VP of engineering Bob Fryk.
No reason was given for the departures.
CEO Gordon Stollery will serve as president until a successor is found to Baum, who had been with Highpine since 1999. Independent
director Hank Swartout has been named non-executive chairman of Highpine to assist Stollery.
Calgary-based Highpine is an Alberta-focused exploration and development company.

position of VP of operations. Longley has been with the company since January 2007 and previously was responsible for management of operations and exploitation of conventional properties.

created position of VP of marketing and business development.
Abousalem was most recently the senior director of OEM solutions at Magellan Navigation.
The appointment comes as CSI Wireless Inc. has officially changed its corporate name and trading symbol to Hemisphere GPS Inc. (TSX:HEM).
Calgary-based Hemisphere GPS designs and manufactures GPS products for positioning, guidance and machine-control applications.
