Calgary will become the headquarters for a new TELUS division focusing on the $1.3-billion small- and medium-sized business customer market, the company announced Monday.
It’s the latest corporate restructuring move for the telecommunications giant, which along with two other Alberta-based operating divisions will now see 73 per cent of its total revenues come from this province.
The new Business Solutions Division, to be launched early next year, will introduce a series of “customer-facing” business units across Canada to consolidate all business services for small- and medium-sized companies.
Basing three of its key operating divisions in Alberta “is a powerful demonstration of our commitment to this province and to the vital role Alberta will play in TELUS’s future,” said company president and CEO Darren Entwistle.
Instead of being organized along product lines, TELUS plans to restructure to better fit the needs of business clients. A small business owner will now be able to deal with a single division for multiple products like data, Internet and local and long-distance services.
Revenues from the division are projected to be approximately $1.3 billion in 2000, or 20.4 per cent of TELUS’s national corporate revenue.
Alberta is already the home for TELUS Mobility and the recently announced Consumer Division in Edmonton.
“It’s great news for the city and for Alberta. It reinforces an already strong presence in the province,” said company spokesman Nick Culo.
The new division’s president and executive team will be located in Calgary, and are expected to be announced in the next few weeks.
