New business cards are on order again at the offices of Integrated Production Services Ltd. (IPS).
The Calgary oil-and-gas services company has announced the appointment of Calgarians John Geddes and Ken Mullen to its board of directors — the most recent of a string of announcements dating back to spring.
Geddes is managing director of SCF Partners of Houston, a private equity investment firm. Prior to joining SCF in July 1998, he was president of Dresser’s Oilfield Division from 1994 to 1998. Before that, he held various senior executive positions with Wheatley Corporation.
Geddes serves on five boards of oilfield service companies. SCF recently invested $30 million in equity financing in IPS.
Mullen, a lawyer and chartered accountant by training, was most recently president and CEO of Plains Energy Services, which was taken over earlier this year.
IPS employs about 235 people. The corporation, a value-added cased wellbore services company, is in the business of cased hole wireline, production optimization, gas well testing and products used in new and existing oil and gas wells. In addition to its 13 offices in Western Canada, IPS also operates in Singapore and Duri, Sumatra.
The company has made several announcements recently, including the start of trading on the TSE Oct. 27. It already trades on the CDNX.
IPS was formed from the April 5 merger of OTATCO Inc. and Reliance Services Group Ltd., both of Calgary. Since then, it has acquired Pro Wireline Ltd. of Brooks, Dynamic Oil Tools of Calgary, and Renegade Industries of Calgary. It has also entered into a purchase proposal for Rotating Production Systems Ltd. of Calgary, as well as announcing the intention to acquire Jet Completion Technologies Inc. of Lloydminster and On-Line Production Services of Grande Prairie.
IPS, still on the hunt for further acquisitions, aims to become the number-two wireline company in the country, after industry heavyweight Precision Drilling.
The Calgary Airport Authority is getting a new president and chief executive officer. Garth F. Atkinson will take over when current president and CEO Ernie Caron retires on January 1, 2001.
Atkinson has held various management and executive positions with the airport authority since 1992, including executive vice-president and chief operating officer.
Donald L. Shaw, who has more than 25 years of experience in information technology, has been appointed president and CEO of TCEnet Inc. of Calgary.
Shaw was previously vice-president of the company’s Datap division. TCEnet took over Datap, a telecommunications company., in December, 1999. Shaw was previously employed by Datap Systems for more than 20 years, holding numerous positions, including president.
TCEnet, which has 104 employees and consultants, provides highly specialized e-commerce business-to-business software. It also offers services that enhance the effectiveness of Internet-based and traditional operations, as well as management information systems. The company, which is in the business of creating intelligent technology, trades on the Canadian Venture Exchange.
Norm Stein is taking over the presidency of International Datashare Corporation (iDc) of Calgary.
Stein has held various positions with the company during the last decade including management consultant, director of worldwide sales and marketing, division manager and general manager. IDc is a data-management provider in the oil and gas services sector, offering digitizing, consulting and value-added services, as well as software. Previously known as Riley’s Datashare, the company held its 50th anniversary earlier this year. It has about 100 employees.
Travis Beatty has also been appointed the firm’s vice-president of finance, and chief financial officer. Previously, he was a financial analyst with Hunt Oil Co.
IDc has also entered into agreements to purchase AnGIS Software Inc. and MSI Systems Integration Inc., both based in Calgary.
AnGIS Software Inc, is the developer of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools including the DataMorpher.
Chuck Smith, president of AnGIS Software Inc. will become iDc’s senior management senior vice-president of development and systems.
MSI president Tom Smith will join the iDc management team as senior vice-president of sales and marketing. MSI develops open systems software technology including MSI-Capture.
