Walter Hildebrandt has taken over as director of University of Calgary Press.
Hildebrandt, the acquisitions and managing editor of the press for the past two years, said he would work towards developing the press into a significant scholarly operation, producing about 35 titles a year.
The press has a list of more than 250 titles.
Hildebrandt earned an MA in the field of Western Canadian history from the University of Saskatchewan in 1978. He is a poet and historian who has authored eight books in both areas since 1985.
John Herring has been appointed president of Wireless Matrix, following the integration of Norcom Networks Corporation into the company.
Herring is the former CEO and founder of Norcom.
The announcement was made by Wireless CEO Dr. J. T. Knight.
Knight also announced that Chris Schnarr, formerly president of Matrix, is now executive VP, corporate development.
Bruce Robinson, formerly president of Norcom, is now chief technology officer. Mark Weder remains as chief financial officer.
Mike Neudoerffer and Ward Garven have left the company.
Wireless Matrix (WRX–TSE) develops wireless data services for business.
Marilyn Backman has been appointed co-chair of Alberta’s Strategic Tourism Marketing Council.
Backman takes the post as former co-chair Bryon Dickie has completed his term. She has more than 20 years in the tourism industry and is general manager of Edmonton’s Varscona Hotel.
The council is industry-led and provides direction and expertise to Alberta Economic Development.
Bill Baker has resigned as chairman and CEO of Circle Energy Inc. Baker has also resigned as a director of the company along with Kirk Henderson.
Current president John Clark will act as interim CEO and Michael Streukens has accepted the position of chairman of the board for Circle, an oil and gas exploration company.
Doug Grabham and Michele McKenzie have been named new directors with Applied Terravision and will focus on the firm’s Canadian division.
Grabham is the director of business function out-sourcing, and has worked in the energy industry for 20 years. Prior to ATS, he was controller, or served in similar positions, for several Canadian energy companies including Canwest Gas Supply and Amoco Canada.
McKenzie will be responsible for business development in the Canadian division. Before ATS, she served in a number of customer service and business development positions at Reliant Energy, Nova Gas and Imperial Oil Ltd.
Applied Terravision Systems (TER–CDNX) provides e-solutions for more than 600 companies worldwide.
Shannon Donnici has been appointed VP, customer care at Shaw Cablesystems.
Donnici is responsible for overseeing call centres across Canada. She joined the company in 1990 and since 1995 had been director of customer care.
