University Technologies International Inc. (UTI) has lost its president and CEO.
The Calgary-based company announced last week that Oleh Hnatiuk will step down to pursue other business opportunities. Hnatiuk joined UTI in 1999.
A search committee has been formed to find a replacement. Vice-president Hugh Jones will assume the reins on an interim basis. Jones joined UTI in 1989 as a manager of science and engineering technologies, but was seconded to biotech firm SemBioSys for four years as managing director before returning to UTI in 1999.
UTI is a private company wholly owned by the University of Calgary that supplies technology commercialization and business development services to a range of clients.
Edmonton-based Cytovax Biotechnologies Inc. (CXB-TSX) has appointed Murray Ratcliffe as chief technology officer.
Ratcliffe, who has 24 years of experience in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, most recently was president of RMR Consulting, providing consultation to the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to that, he was vice-president of research, development and manufacturing with Synsorb Biotech Inc.
Cytovax is a biotechnology company focused on developing novel approaches to combating infectious diseases.
Shell Canada CEO Linda Cook has been elected to the board of directors of Chicago-based aerospace giant Boeing Company (BA-NYSE), effective December 1.
Cook, who heads one of Canada’s largest integrated petroleum companies, has spent 23 years with the Shell conglomerate. Prior to joining Shell’s Calgary headquarters earlier this year, she spent three years as CEO of Shell Gas & Power in London, England.
Cook is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, a member of the Harvard School of Government Dean’s Council and a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.
The Boeing Company is an international aerospace company with customers in 145 countries.
Predator Exploration Ltd. has named John Horning and Karen Hinds to its executive team.
Horning takes the helm as vice-president of corporate development, while Hinds will serve as vice-president of engineering. Horning brings nearly 35 years of experience in the energy sector in Western Canada, the Arctic and internationally. Most recently, he was president and chief executive of privately owned Cebanx Investments Inc.
Hinds has spent 25 years in the oilpatch in a variety of engineering-related capacities. Most recently, she was chief operating officer and executive VP for Cebanx, which she helped found.
Predator is a Canadian junior energy company engaged in the exploration, development and production of crude oil and natural gas.
The Children’s Cottage Society of Calgary has appointed Marla Moshansky as fund development manager.
Moshansky has previously worked as a fund developer for the Alberta Literacy Foundation and the Parent Support Association, and is a founding member of the Calgary Science Centre’s Odyssey Circle. The society provides timely support for parents experiencing a family crisis and with no other means of financial backing.
Two Calgarians are among 16 people from across Canada elected to the new board of directors of the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC).
Tourism Calgary president and CEO Joe Fardell and Klaus Roth, portfolio manager (Americas) for Travel Alberta, were appointed to the organization’s board during its national conference last week in Montreal.
