A Calgary production company has won an Emmy Award for outstanding editing for a spot on ESPN.

Creative director Jeff August and senior editor Glenn Sakatch of White Iron Digital were recognized last week in New York for their collaborative work on the Heisman Trophy Award program opening.

There were a total of four nominations, “and we were nominated for two of them,” says August. “We had a really good chance of winning.”

“It validates my feelings that geography is no longer an issue in television production,” he said.

“ESPN is the second-largest network in the world, based one hour away from New York City, the largest television post-production community in the world. Yet they chose us at White Iron in Calgary because of the quality of work we produce.”

This is August’s third Emmy — he won the first two for his work during the Lillehammer Olympic Games.

White Iron Digital is a subsidiary company of the White Iron Group.

Meanwhile on the local scene, White Iron copped the 2001 Ad Rodeo Achievement Award Friday night at the annual Ad Rodeo gala, attended by more than 1,000 people.

The Ad Rodeo Anvil Awards celebrate the creative excellence of locally produced advertising and communications. Other winners this year include Parallel Design (four Anvils) and Highwood Communications (six Anvils).

In all, 19 different entrants culled from some 570 submissions received 34 Anvils.
