Jordan Keenan, 13, looked a little nervous as he shook Premier Ralph Klein’s hand. But as the newest columnist for Business Edge — filling in from time to time for his dad, Dr. Tom Keenan — the Grade 8 student at Bishop Pinkham Junior High School will have to get used to meeting famous people.

Jordan was one of five Alberta students in Grades 7 to 12 who won $800 in an essay contest sponsored by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commission to mark the fifth anniversary of freedom of information and privacy legislation in Alberta.

Three students in Grades 4 to 6 won $300 prizes for artwork celebrating “information rights for an information age.”

The students were honoured by Premier Klein, privacy commissioner Bob Clark, learning minister Lyle Oberg and municipal affairs minister Walter Paszkowski at a ceremony in the McDougall Centre last week.
