Bell Globemedia appoints new senior VP

Mary Powers has been appointed senior vice-president of corporate communications for Bell Globemedia.

Powers was previously vice-president of communications at CHUM Ltd., which was recently purchased by Bell Globemedia.

BGM is a multi-media company with ownership interests in CTV Inc. and The Globe and Mail.

CanWest MediaWorks Publications Inc. has promoted Kirk Allen to senior VP of advertising sales.

Allen was most recently VP of advertising at The National Post and will continue to lead the Post advertising team until a successor is appointed.

CanWest MediaWorks Publications Inc. publishes 10 major daily newspapers together with 23 smaller community daily, weekly and bi-weekly publications. Its head office is in Don Mills.

Frank Rocchetti has joined Loblaw Companies Ltd. (TSX:L) as executive VP. Rocchetti, a CGA, spent 27 years with Sears Canada, rising from the warehouse to senior VP and chief merchant.

Loblaw is one of Canada's largest food distributors with more than 1,000 corporate and franchised stores. Its head office is in Brampton.

BSM Technologies Inc. (TSXV:GPS,) a provider of high-security vehicle tracking, surveillance and fleet management services, has appointed Lou Arcari to the newly created position of VP of OEM sales. Most recently, Arcari served as a sales and business development executive for AirIQ.

BSM is based in Woodbridge.

Brampton-based telecommunications giant Nortel (TSX, NYSE:NT) has hired Ellen Bovarnick as vice-president of global quality and lean six sigma, a process used to improve customer satisfaction.

Bovarnick joins Nortel from the Coca-Cola Co. in Atlanta, where she served as VP of business process excellence.

David Christensen has been named VP of corporate development for Gabriel Resources.

Before joining Gabriel, Christensen spent more than 15 years working as a senior metals and mining analyst with Credit Suisse, Merrill Lynch and as a portfolio manager with the Franklin Group of Funds.

Toronto-based Gabriel is engaged in the exploration and development of mineral properties in Romania.

Corel Corp. (TSX:CRE, Nasdaq:CREL) has appointed Jonathan Kissane as senior VP of corporate development.

Before joining Corel, Kissane was an associate at Centennial Ventures.

Corel is a packaged software company with head office in Ottawa.

The Bank of America Corp. has appointed Debra Armstrong as president of its subsidiary MBNA Canada Bank.

Armstrong joined MBNA in 1999 to start up the legal department.

MBNA Canada Bank provides co-branded and affinity credit card programs in Canada. Its head office is in Ottawa.

Danielle Fournier has been appointed Canadian general manager of McAfee Inc.

McAfee Inc. provides computer security software and services. Its Canadian headquarters is in Markham.

Motion Picture Distribution LP has promoted Doug Smith to executive VP. Smith joined Alliance in 1997, and was most recently senior VP for TV distribution and operations.

Motion Picture Distribution LP has movie distribution operations in Canada, the U.K. and Spain. Its head office is in Toronto.

Laramide Resources Ltd. (TSX:LAM) has appointed William Smith its VP of corporate development and Evan Hughes its general manager for the company's Australian operations. Both will work from the company's Brisbane office, where its wholly owned Lagoon Creek Resources Pty. subsidiary is headquartered.

Minerals resource company Laramide's head office is in Toronto.

Tundra Semiconductor Corp. (TSX:TUN) of Ottawa has promoted Robert Fischer to VP of sales.

Fischer was previously Tundra's North American sales director, having joined the company in July 2006.

Tundra markets its services to communications, networking, storage system and information technology vendors.

Craig Wallace has been hired as CEO of Brandimensions Inc.

Wallace brings more than 23 years of experience in technology companies, serving as president and CEO of AOL Canada Inc. from 2003 to 2006.

Brandimensions is the parent company of BrandIntel, a research company that analyses online consumer-published content, and BrandProtect, an online brand security company. Its head office is in Toronto.

E.D. Smith Income Fund (TSX:JAM.UN) has appointed Bruce Smith, CA, as executive VP and CFO.

Smith was most recently president and CEO of Afton Food Group.

David Smith, CGA, will continue to be the fund's VP of finance.

E.D. Smith Income Fund is an unincorporated limited-purpose trust that owns E.D. Smith & Sons Ltd. and its subsidiaries. E.D. Smith manufactures a broadly diverse portfolio of branded and private-label food products. Its head office is in Winona.

InterOil Corp. (TSX:IOL, AMEX:IOC), a Canadian company with operations in Papua New Guinea, has appointed Collin Visaggio as CFO.

Visaggio brings 24 years' experience in senior financial and business positions with Woodside Petroleum and BP Australia.

InterOil is developing a vertically integrated energy company whose primary focus is Papua New Guinea and the surrounding region. Company offices are in Papua New Guinea, Australia, Houston and Toronto.

St. Andrew Goldfields Ltd. (TSX:SAS) says that Keith Minty, P. Eng., is stepping down as president and COO. Glenn Laing, the current CEO, will assume the position of president.

St. Andrew says Minty is returning to his resource consulting business in South Africa.

St. Andrew is a gold mining and exploration company with head office in Oakville.

Yukon Gold Corp. Inc. (TSX:YK) has promoted Paul Gorman to CEO.

Gorman was previously the company's VP of corporate development. He succeeds Howard Barth, who remains on the board and will assist in an advisory capacity.

Yukon Gold's head office is in Toronto.

Xenos Group Inc. (TSX: XNS) says Stuart Butts, chairman and CEO, has assumed the title of president with the departure of former president and COO Jim Farmer.

Paul Walker has been promoted to executive VP and COO. He has been with Xenos since 1999.

Graham Barker has been promoted to chief marketing officer. He has been with Xenos since 1994.

Xenos is a data- and document-management company with its head office in Richmond Hill.

Canadian Arrow Mines Ltd. (TSXV:CRO) has named Paul D'Aloisio as chief operating officer, succeeding Alan Letourneau, who remains a director.

D'Aloisio is a partner with an accounting firm in Sudbury.

Canadian Arrow is an exploration and development company focused on base-metal deposits close to existing infrastructure. Its head office is in Timmins.

PharmEng International Inc. (TSXV:PII) has named Bert Loveless as CFO. A CA, he has held CFO positions with a number of publicly traded companies.

Toronto-based PharmEng is a consulting and contract manufacturing company that serves the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Goldbelt Resources Ltd. (TSXV: GLD) has appointed Peter Turner as VP of exploration and business development.

Turner has more than 15 years' experience in West Africa.

Goldbelt explores and develops known gold prospects in West Africa. Its head office is in Toronto.

DMTI Spatial has appointed Alex MacKay as CEO. MacKay brings more than 20 years of experience in the sales and management of technology services.

DMTI provides location and geographic information services and digital mapping. Its head office is in Markham.
