Mining company appoints new chief financial officer

Houston named as transitional CEO for port authority

Fortress Minerals Corp. (TSXV:FST) has appointed Ryan Torvik as chief financial officer. Torvik comes with more than 10 years of finance and managerial experience in an array of industries in different countries. Fortress is a base- and precious-metals exploration company, with its corporate office in Vancouver.

Contec Innovations Inc. (TSXV:BUZ), a provider of mobile infrastructure software, has promoted Oren Friedman to VP of marketing and business development. He has more than a decade of software and telecom industry experience. Contec is headquartered in Vancouver.

A senior manager of Ivanhoe Mines has been appointed the new CEO of SouthGobi Energy Resources Ltd. (TSXV: SGQ). Peter Meredith, Ivanhoe's deputy chairman, has been a director of SouthGobi (formerly Asia Gold) since it went public in December 2003. Meredith succeeds Edward Flood, who will remain as a director of the company.

Flood was recently appointed managing director of investment banking for Haywood Securities (UK) Ltd. Based in Vancouver, SouthGobi is focused on development of coal deposits in Mongolia's South Gobi Region. Ivanhoe is SouthGobi's majority shareholder.

Gong (Michael) Chen has become CFO of Magnum Energy Inc. (TSXV:MEN). Chen has held senior financial management positions with a number of North American public companies. Magnum is a junior oil and gas exploration company operating in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Its head office is in Vancouver.

Exeter Resource Corp. (TSXV:XRC, AMEX:XRA) has a new COO. Paul Cholakos will initially be based in Argentina. Cholakos, a mining engineer, was most recently commercial manager for Oil Search Ltd. Exeter is a Vancouver-based mineral exploration company focused on gold and silver properties in South America.

Tim Watson is joining Teck Cominco Ltd. as senior VP of project development effective Aug. 6. He has spent the last eight years with AMEC PLC, and is currently COO, power and process. Teck Cominco (TSX:TCK.A, TCK.B; NYSE:TCK) is a diversified mining company headquartered in Vancouver.

Canfor Corp. (TSX:CFP) says Patch Bonkemeyer, senior VP of operations, has left the company to pursue other opportunities. Bonkemeyer joined Canfor in 2006. No replacement has been named. Vancouver-based Canfor is a producer and supplier of lumber, plywood, pulp and paper.

The transition committee responsible for the amalgamation of the Fraser River, North Fraser and Vancouver Port Authorities has named Captain Gordon Houston as transition CEO for the proposed Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA). The transition CEO is a newly created role to guide the formation of the proposed VFPA, including the selection of the executive team. The CEOs of the three Lower Mainland port authorities will continue to lead operations of their respective organizations until the date of amalgamation.

Dynasty Metals & Mining Inc. (TSXV:DMM) has appointed Nick Furber as the company's new CFO and corporate secretary. Furber comes from Deloitte & Touche LLP, where he was a senior manager in the M&A transaction advisory group. Furber replaces William McCartney, who assumes the position of director of business development for the company. Dynasty is a Vancouver-based mining company focused on mineral properties in Ecuador.

Ignition Point Technologies Corp. (TSX:IPN) says Peter van der Gracht has tendered his resignation as president and CEO to pursue other business and personal opportunities.

Michael Cytrynbaum, chairman of the board of directors for Ignition, will oversee operations on an interim basis until a new CEO is appointed. Ignition Point is a Vancouver-based broadband technology company.

CanAlaska Uranium Ltd. (TSXV:CVV) has promoted Karl Schimann to VP of exploration. Schimann has directed the company's uranium exploration efforts in the Athabasca Basin as exploration manager since 2004. CanAlaska has 17 wholly owned and two optioned uranium projects in the basin. Its head office is in Vancouver.

Av Hundle is the new manager of business development and marketing at UVic's Vancouver Island Technology Park (VITP) in Saanich. Hundle joined VITP last year as a student through UVIC's business co-operative education program. VITP facilitates the growth of technology on Vancouver Island by providing physical infrastructure linking local, provincial, national and international resources with emerging or growing tech companies.

Southwestern Resources Corp. (TSX:SWG) says John Paterson, president, CEO and director of the company, has resigned from his positions effective immediately, citing personal reasons. Paterson was also one of the company's founders in 1990. The company said it has started to search for a successor. Vancouver-based Southwestern is a mineral exploration company with gold, silver and base-metals mineral properties in China and Peru.

Consolidated AGX Resources Corp. (TSXV:CSX) has appointed Carlos Perez as CFO; Luis Andres Rojas as COO; Eduardo Lima as senior VP of business development for Latin America; and Sally Eyre as senior VP of corporate development.

Perez previously held a number of executive positions with Venezuelan companies. Rojas comes with more than 29 years of experience in the Venezuelan energy sector. Lima comes with more than 25 years of experience in the oil and gas sector. Eyre was most recently VP of corporate affairs for UrAsia Energy Ltd. Headquartered in Vancouver, Consolidated AGX is an energy company focused on Columbia.

Rubicon Minerals Corp. (TSX:RMX, Amex:RBY) has named Matthew Wunder, P.Geo., as VP of exploration. Wunder comes with more than 20 years of experience with major and junior mining companies operating throughout North and Central America. Rubicon is a gold-focused exploration company headquartered in Vancouver.
