Teck Cominco appoints new VP of energy

Teck Cominco Ltd. (TSX:TCK.A and TCK.B, NYSE:TCK) has appointed Ray Reipas to the newly created position of VP of energy. Reipas joins Teck from a major oil and gas company, where he was VP of mining. Reipas will be responsible for the management of Teck's interests in its oilsands development projects in Alberta. He will be based in Calgary. Teck is a diversified resource company headquartered in Vancouver,

JER Envirotech International Corp. (TSXV:JER) says Mark Komonoski has resigned from the position of senior VP of investor relations. The company says it is engaging in cost containment, and investor relations questions will now be handled by Ji Yoon, its CFO and corporate secretary. JER uses waste or byproduct materials to produce environmentally friendly alternative products for applications in the construction, transport, automotive and toy industries. Its head office is in Vancouver.

Stephen Barley has agreed to become president of ReMac Zinc Corp. (TSXV:RMZ), formerly OMC Capital Corp., replacing Douglas Good who has resigned to pursue other business interests. Barley currently is engaged as an officer or a director of a number of TSX-listed resource companies. ReMac is a Vancouver-based company focused on the development of its zinc-lead-silver project in southeastern B.C.

Functional Technologies Corp. (TSXV:FEB) has promoted Garth Greenham to president. Greenham will maintain his previous role as COO. Geoff Lee, who carried the roles of president and CFO over the past year, now assumes the role of VP of corporate development, while Sherrill Palmer takes over as CFO. Palmer previously was the company's manager of finance and administration. FEB is a functional foods and biological health products company. Its head office is in Vancouver, with a sales office in California, and research and production facilities in Prince Edward Island.

Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corp. (TSX:TKM) has expanded its executive management team, adding Tammy Mullarky as VP of strategic planning and business development, and Peter Lutwyche as VP of pharmaceutical development. Mullarky joined Tekmira from Targeted Growth, Inc. where she was senior VP. Lutwyche joined Tekmira's subsidiary company, Protiva Biotherapeutics Inc., in February 2008. Tekmira is a biopharm focused on advancing RNA products and providing its lipid nanoparticle delivery technology to partners.

Tekmira is based in Vancouver.

Corey Allen has resigned his position as COO with Rusoro Mining Ltd. (TSXV:RML) to pursue other career opportunities. Rusoro is a junior gold producer with a large land position in the Bolivar State mining region of Venezuela. Rusoro's head office is in Vancouver.

Far West Mining Ltd. (TSX:FWM) has appointed Richard Zimmer as president and CEO. Robert Hindson, who held those roles since the company's inception in 1994, has been appointed executive chairman.

Zimmer joined the company in March 2007 as VP and COO. Based in Vancouver, Far West is an international mineral exploration company focused on properties in Chile, Argentina and Australia.

West Fraser (TSX:WFT) will see three retirements at the end of 2008: Martti Solin, executive VP of finance and corporate development and CFO; Gary Townsend, president of solid wood products; and VP of transportation and energy Bill LeGrow. Effective Jan. 1, Gerry Miller, currently executive VP of operations, will become the executive VP of finance and CFO. Ray Ferris, currently the VP of lumber operations, becomes VP of solid wood products. Larry Hughes, senior VP and secretary, will assume primary responsibility for corporate development. WFT said these retirements and successions are part of a planned process that began more than two years ago. West Fraser is an integrated wood products company with head office in Vancouver.

Mega Silver Inc. (MSR:TSXV), formerly Treat Systems Inc., has appointed Peter Thiersch to the position of VP of business development. He comes from Hecla Mining. Mega is a junior Vancouver-based silver exploration and development company with projects in Mexico, the Yukon and B.C.

Better Business Bureau (BBB) has welcomed Rosalind Scott as the new executive director of the Vancouver Island chapter. For the past 16 years Strong has been supporting Island business development both professionally and on a volunteer basis. BBB's mission is to be the leader in advancing marketplace trust.

Nolan Watson has joined Sandstorm Resources Ltd. (TSXV:SSL) as president and CEO, and a director. He is the former CFO of Silver Wheaton Corp. Watson replaces Marcel de Groot, who remains on the board. Sandstorm is a junior miner based in Vancouver.

Coro Mining Corp. (TSX:COP) has appointed Geoff Chater to the position of VP of business development. Chater is a principal of Namron Advisors. Coro has two main properties in Chile and in Argentina. Its head office is in Vancouver.

Uranium North Resources Corp. (TSXV:UNR) has engaged Allan Armitage as its VP of exploration. He most recently was VP of exploration for Triex Minerals Corp. Based in Vancouver, Uranium North's key properties are located in Nunavut and Saskatchewan.
