B.C. Innovation Council names new CEO

Who's moving on in BC

Dean Rockwell has become CEO of British Columbia Innovation Council (BCIC). Prior to joining BCIC, Rockwell was the VP and GM of the worldwide digital media networks business unit within Cisco's Service Provider Video Technology Group. Based in Vancouver, BCIC is focused on accelerating the growth of British Columbia's science and technology communities.

The Insurance Corp. of B.C. has a new boss to replace one who moved on after a scandal over repaired cars. The Crown-owned auto insurer has hired Jon Schubert, the current president and CEO of Saskatchewan Government Insurance, to become its new president and CEO. Schubert will take up his new job in mid-November and replaces Paul Taylor, who resigned in the spring to take a job in the private sector. Geri Prior will continue in the role of interim president and CEO until Schubert is in place at ICBC.

ESI Entertainment Systems Inc. (TSX:ESY), a provider of secure payment processing services to online and offline companies, has promoted Ian Franks to the position of CFO. Franks previously held a number of progressively senior financial management positions for ESI, which is based in Burnaby.

Norsat International Inc. (TSX: NII) says William Witten, VP of sales, and Pervez Siddiqui, VP of marketing, are no longer with the company. No further information was given. Norsat designs, engineers and markets intelligent satellite solutions for high-speed data transmission.

The company is headquartered in Vancouver.

Canaccord Capital Inc. (TSX:CCI) has engaged John Rothwell as executive VP and head of private client services. Rothwell was most recently president of Wellington West Capital Inc. CCI is an independent, full-service investment dealer in Canada with capital markets operations in the United Kingdom and the United States. Its head office is in Vancouver.

Aurion Resources Ltd. (TSXV:AU) has appointed Michael Basha, P. Eng, P.Geo., as president and chief executive. Basha is currently a director of the Vancouver company and will remain on the board. He was previously VP of exploration of Cornerstone Capital Resources Corp. Basha replaces Richard Graham, who has resigned but remains on the board. Aurion is a mineral resource company that completed its IPO last month.

Rocky Mountain Resources Corp. (TSXV:RKY) has entered into an employment agreement with Richard Mohr as VP of business development. Mohr has held various managerial positions in areas ranging from field operations to finance with a number of public companies. He will be based in New York. RKY is an industrial mineral and metal company focused on the development of new mineral resources. Its headquarters are in Vancouver.

Epic Data International Inc. (TSXV:EKD), a provider of data collection, material management and manufacturing visibility solutions, says its CFO, Jay Code, has resigned to pursue other interests. Alan Foster, VP of operations, will assume responsibility on an interim basis for certain of the CFO duties. Epic's head office is in Richmond.

The Association for Mineral Exploration BC (AME BC) has appointed Gavin Dirom as AME BC's new president and CEO, effective Nov. 3. Dirom is currently VP of environment, health and safety at the Mining Association of British Columbia. He brings 20 years of professional mining industry experience to AME BC's Vancouver office.

Opal Energy Corp. (TSXV:OPA) has accepted the resignations of Barry Williamson as director, president and CEO; and Bruce Huff as CFO and corporate secretary. Michael Curtis has been hired as the new president and CEO; and John Lang, previously the company's controller, becomes its new CFO and corporate secretary. Opal is an independent exploration and production company, focused on natural gas resources in Texas. The company maintains a corporate office in Vancouver and a satellite office in Victoria, Tex.

Taseko Mines Ltd. (TSX:TKO, AMEX:TGB) has named Peter Mitchell as CFO. Mitchell, a CA, more recently held the position of president of Florida Career College. Taseko is a mining exploration, development and production company headquartered in Vancouver.

Sutter Gold Mining Inc. (TSXV:SGM) has appointed Robert Hutmacher as its CFO. Hutmacher was most recently corporate controller for US Gold. Sutter is a junior gold exploration and development company active in California and Mexico. Its corporate office is in Vancouver.

Cream Minerals Ltd. (TSXV:CMA) has realigned its management structure with the hiring of Michael O'Connor as president, CEO and a director while Frank Lang has assumed the position of board chairman. O'Connor brings more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Based in Vancouver, Cream explores for precious metals in B.C. and Manitoba and in the state of Nayarit, Mexico.

Finavera Renewables Inc. (TSXV:FVR) has appointed Peter Leighton as president and COO. Leighton was most recently the COO of Accenture Business Services for Utilities. Based in Vancouver, Finavera develops renewable energy resources and technologies.

* Due to the uncertain financial climate created by the current state of the markets, says Crosshair Exploration & Mining Corp. (TSX:CXX, AMEX:CXZ), its president and COO Paul Hosford has left. Mark Morabito, the company's CEO, has also assumed the duties of president. Further, the company has elected not to proceed with a winter drill program and a cash conservation program is being implemented, which includes the suspension of field operations. Crosshair is a junior exploration company focused on uranium in the Central Mineral Belt of Labrador.

C3 Alliance Corp. has retained Jerry Asp as president and Dan Jepsen as chairman and CEO. Asp is the VP of the Canadian Aboriginal Minerals Association, former chief of the Tahltan First Nation and founder of the Tahltan Nation Development Corp. Jepsen is the former president and CEO of the Association for Mineral Exploration BC (AME BC). Jepsen is based in the companyÄôs Vancouver office and Asp works out of the Whitehorse office. C3 Alliance works with indigenous peoples, communities, businesses and governments to take a new look at concerns related to development, with a focus on building solutions.

Bruce Okabe has joined InterVISTAS Consulting Group as senior VP of the business strategy group. For the past two years, Okabe was deputy minister of the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts for the province of British Columbia. Headquartered in Vancouver, InterVISTAS recently formed a transportation and tourism global alliance with the DHV Group. Inter-VISTAS assists airports, airlines, rail carriers, ports, tourism organizations and other clients with strategic services in planning, marketing, analysis and strategic advocacy.
