Cornish steps away from ENMAX chair

George Cornish is stepping down as chairman of ENMAX Corporation, effective Oct. 15.

Cornish has chaired the board for six years, but spent more than 45 years with the electricity supplier.

A search is under way for a replacement, although Cornish will continue as chairman emeritus until the companys 2004 annual meeting.

Cornish began his career as a streetlight engineer in the electric system at the City of Calgary, where he was subsequently employed for 34 years. He held senior roles, including that of chief commissioner, and retired 15 years ago.

ENMAX, a wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary, provides electricity, natural gas and services to more than 420,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Alberta through its subsidiary companies.

Edmonton-based Shear Minerals Ltd. has appointed Gerald Prosalendis as vice-president of corporate development.

Prosalendis was previously VP of corporate development for Dia Met Minerals Ltd. and helped develop and market the Ekati Mine, Canadas first diamond mine.

Shear Minerals (SRM:TSXV) is a Canadian-based exploration company focusing on diamond exploration in the Canadian North.

Kicking Horse Resources Ltd. has made several senior appointments.

Wing-Kee Chan has been named chief operating officer and vice-president, engineering.

He has more than 20 years of experience in oil and gas production and reservoir engineering, including several years specializing in property acquisitions and divestitures.

As well, Shelina Hirji has been appointed vice-president, finance. Most recently, she was controller of the Calgary-based energy firm.

Shaw Communications Inc. of Calgary has made several changes at the top.

Mike Abram, formerly president of Shaw Ventures, becomes president of Star Choice Communications. Abram joined the company in early 2000 as president of the newly formed division of Shaw Ventures.

Brad Shaw, currently senior vice-president of operations for Star Choice, has been appointed senior vice-president of operations for Shaw Cablesystems. He replaces Bill MacDonald, who will retire in late November after 21 years with the company (SJR.B-TSX).

Daniel Belot is the new CFO and vice-president, finance, of Calgary-based Baytex Energy Trust (BTE:UN-TSX).

Belot brings more than 18 years of experience in the energy and financial services sectors, most recently as investor relations manager for a senior oil and gas income trust.

J.L. Bolokoski is the new CFO of Calgary-based GiveMePower. Bolokoski is a specialist in corporate finance and acquisitions, having held executive positions such as chief financial officer, chief operating officer and director of investor relations for PriceWaterhouse Coopers.

GiveMePower provides desktop, mobile and wireless solutions for the computer-aided design (CAD) software industry.

Iron Leaf Communications has bolstered its executive team with the addition of Jason Halfyard as vice-president of operations.

Halfyard has a diverse background in strategic Internet marketing, e-mail marketing, branding and development. Prior to joining Iron Leaf, he oversaw operations at RareMethod Interactive Studio.

Iron Leaf, which develops Internet applications, has offices in Calgary and Surrey, U.K.

Gary Neve has stepped down as CFO and vice- president of finance for Calgary-based Elite Technical Inc. A search is under way for a replacement. Elite (ET-TSXV) manufactures cable assemblies and connection solutions for consumer products, commercial and industrial products and electrical systems.
